Clubs in Sydney.

Australians belong to clubs. These are usually places to gather, eat a good meal, drink with friends, enjoy the social atmosphere. I am assuming there is a fee to join. Most people join the club; however, nonmembers can eat at the restaurants. We have been to two clubs; the Canterbury League Club and the German-Austrian Club. The German food was very good at the German Austrian Club. There are 4 restaurants at the Canterbury Club. We ate at the Chinese restaurant and were not that crazy about it. We are going to try one of the other restaurants tonight at Canterbury.

Sunday Afternoon Drive with Good Friends

The latest and greatest way to keep flies off of your face. It even has built in sun glasses and all for $4 at Parklea markets. Editor's comments: It didn't work all that great when I used it on Monday morning. It is solar operated and the sun wasn't up enough. That meant I had flies all over me for 45 mintues. At one time we counted 24 on the back of my shirt!!!! We bought fly spray Monday afternoon!!!

There are garbage trucks and then there are YUM garbage trucks!

We have seen this truck on the way to work a couple of times. We didn't believe the license plate but here it is in living color!

Auto repair shops are called "Smash Repair" shops. Fitting, don't you think?

Canberra

Australia has 10 out of 10 of the most poisonous snakes in the world. We were able to view some of them from afar (ie behind the glass) at the Reptile Farm in Canberra on our way home from the Sydney South Zone Conference last week. We also stopped at the War Memorial in Canberra. We stayed at the Gateway Motel for a cost of $150 and it was about on par with a Motel 8 at home.

Black Belly Red - a very venomous snake, meaning it will not kill you but you would be very sick. This was a pet, if you can believe it.

Rainforest Carpet Python - a real cutie.

Just your common Death Adder. You wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley!

Australia's War Memorial. On the big avenue leading up to this building there are large monuments on either side of the road commemorating all the wars that Australia has fought in.

Mt. Wilson

After leaving the Zig Zag Railroad we took a short drive to Mt. Wilson where we toured the Gardens at Windy Ridge. It was really lovely. The trees were in bloom and a lot of the flowers were also in bloom. It is a privately owned garden and the people live on the property. A lot of the land owners in this area have beautiful gardens and they charge an entrance fee to see them.

Zig Zag Railroad

Saturday October 6th we drove into the Blue Mountains west of Sydney and rode the train down the zig zag track that goes between Clarence and Lithgow. It took 1 1/2 hours round trip and at each zag the steam engine would change from the front to the back of the train.

Southern Highlands NSW

After leaving Canberra we stopped at Tulips at the Top. It was really nicer because there were no people there. At both the Floriade and Tulips at the Top they have planted pansies inbetween the tulips and the daffodils, hyacinths, etc.

After Church we visited Fitzroy Falls and Hampden Bridge in Kangaroo Valley.
